Bats Are Cute: Until They’re in Your Home! Tips for Humane Bat Removal

If bats have taken up residence in your home or property, Bad Company Wildlife Eviction Specialists offers safe and humane bat removal services.

It’s no secret that bats get a pretty bad rap.

The media usually depicts them as rabid, blood-sucking creatures who may or may not be Dracula in disguise. Even if they’re not doubling as vampires, they’re hiding in the creepiest of places, waiting to swarm anyone who disturbs them.

That’s the Hollywood version of what bats are like. So what’s the reality, once all the movie filters are stripped away?

The truth is that bats are shy creatures who would rather hide in your attic and stay out of your way than fly in your face. The majority don’t have rabies and quite a few bat species are pretty darn adorable!

Some cool facts about bats: 🦇

  • With over 1,300 species, bats are among the largest groups of mammals on earth.

  • They’re the only mammals that can fly. It’s true- flying squirrels actually glide.

  • Their wingspan can get up to six feet (Google ‘flying foxes.’)

  • Bats can be found on every continent except Antarctica!

  • They eat LOTS of bugs, saving Canadians millions of dollars in pest control services every year.

  • There’s even a bat species named after Yoda!

However, even if you’re the biggest Star Wars fan, you don’t want his winged counterpart flying around your home at 3:00 a.m. In this blog, we’ll talk about humane bat removal and how working with wildlife eviction specialists can result in a win-win for you and your unwanted visitors.

Where Are Bats Typically Found?

Because bats can fly, they will generally seek cover at your home’s highest point, usually your attic. Even if you don’t have an attic in your house, bats may still enter through an open window or door, and when they do, they can hide almost anywhere. There are a few common places you’ll find them outside of the attic, including:

  • The roof lining

  • The spaces between walls

  • Chimneys

  • Basements

  • Barns and sheds

  • Garages

Signs that You Have a Bat Problem

Signs of a bat infestation are relatively easy to spot once you know what to look for. Since bats are known to nest in attics, the best place to start searching for them is there. You may notice stains on your ceiling, light squeaking noises, and a pungent, ammonia-like odour. Other visible signs:

  • Small, oily streaks near entrance holes

  • Pebbly, dark droppings (guano) around the house

  • Accumulation of guano in common hiding spots

Once your suspicions have been confirmed, it’s time to call Bad Company Wildlife Eviction for safe and humane bat removal services.

Our Inspection and Assessment Methods

During a comprehensive inspection, we look at your home from the highest point to the lowest level, checking for bats or signs of their presence. If it appears that you have an infestation, we check for common entry points, which may include:

  • Gables

  • Ridge caps

  • Roof vents

  • Warps in siding

  • Brick soffit gap

Because bats can squeeze through very small openings, our wildlife eviction technicians are highly diligent in their search for entry points. Once they’re done, they will present you with a list of maintenance and repair recommendations that can prevent future bat infestations.

If we locate a bat colony in the structure, we will determine the most appropriate removal method. Should we find baby bats (baby season is usually May to August), we may need to return once they’re old enough to fly, in order to ensure that they aren’t left behind during the eviction. If separated from their mothers, they will either die or try to make their way into your living space, which is the exact opposite of what we want to achieve with humane wildlife removal.

What is Our Humane Bat Removal Process?

Once all points of entry are identified, we install a one-way bat exit on each one. These setups allow the bats to exit your home but not get back in. To secure weak points and prevent bat re-entry, we install preventative screening and caulking. Later, we return to remove the one-way bat exits and permanently seal the entries.

Should You Try Evicting Bats Yourself?

While there’s nothing to stop you from trying to solve your bat problem, there are good reasons why you shouldn’t.

  • They are potential carriers of disease and exposure to their waste can cause lung disease. While bats avoid contact with humans and are not likely to attack you, they could scratch your skin if they feel threatened during removal.

  • You probably don’t have access to one-way bat exits and other resources that won’t harm or endanger the bats in any way.

  • You could end up separating mother bats from their offspring, causing unnecessary suffering.

At Bad Company Wildlife Eviction, we have the experience and resources to safely evict the bats in your home without risking injury to ourselves or the animals, particularly the young. Our experienced professionals can also provide you with insights and recommendations that prevent the problem from recurring.

If you have any questions or concerns following an eviction, you are welcome to contact us.

How Much Does Bat Removal Cost?

As each property and eviction requirement is different, it’s difficult to provide a price before your home is inspected. When you contact Bad Company Wildlife Eviction about your bat problem, we will send an experienced wildlife technician out to:

  • Inspect the property for signs of invasion, like roosting and guano.

  • Identify entry points and potential opportunities for entry.

Once we explain our removal process and provide you with an estimate, you can decide whether to schedule the eviction.

We Can Send Your Bats Packing!

At Bad Company Wildlife Eviction, we think there’s a place for bats- just not in your home! We offer 100% humane bat removal services that can handle any bat removal challenge and keep them from coming back once they’re out. To schedule a no-obligation visit, call 1-855-880-9860 or contact us online.
